The museums of Colmar and its monuments

Located in the south of Alsace, Colmar is considered one of the most charming cities in the region thanks to its picturesque canals and half-timbered houses.

Colmar is also a must-see destination for heritage and culture lovers.

For a day under the sign of history, head towards the city center. Pass by the Champ de Mars park, a true haven of peace in the heart of the city. Then, go to the Little Venice district and pass by the Roesselmann fountain. Take the opportunity to stroll through Pia’s favorite neighborhood.

Then take a gourmet break and discover the local products of the covered market of Colmar. You will be able to taste the famous pretzels and many specialities of the Alsatian culinary heritage.

Once this gourmet stop is done, go to the discovery of the tanners’ district. Pass by the place of the old customs and admire the magnificent Pfiser houses built in 1537 as well as the Schongauer house.

Depending on what you want to do, you can visit one of the city’s museums. Whether you choose the Bartholdi Museum, the Unterlinden Museum or the Toy Museum, you are sure to have a wonderful time! The choice is yours:

Bartholdi Museum: is located in the birth house of Auguste Bartholdi, a famous 19th century artist, known for designing the Statue of Liberty with French engineer Gustave Eiffel.
Musée Unterlinden: installed in a former Dominican convent founded in 1252 and presents a remarkable collection of sculptures and paintings from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The toy museum: open since 1993, offers a playful and thematic visit of the toys that have marked our childhood.

Back at the hotel, enjoy an aperitif at Paul and Pia’s before having dinner in one of the many restaurants of the city. For a traditional Alsatian dining experience, Paul and Pia recommend the Auberge de Colmar.
